ICE partnering with Christel House Mexico to provide career development program

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - A new program to help severely impoverished students in Mexico advance through university studies or vocational training will be funded by International Cruise & Excursions (ICE), Inc. The program will help Christel House Mexico (CHM) graduates successfully transition into the formal work sector.
"We take great pride in our relationship with Christel House,” said Marcia Rowley, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of ICE. “Through the commitment of management and staff at Christel House, many underprivileged children are waking up today with hope and equipped with the education necessary to make a better life for themselves. ICE is committed to contributing to the continuing education and professional training of Christel House students to give them the opportunity for a brighter future. We believe that providing these young men and women with a strong business education, combined with a professional internship and work experience at ICE, will provide a strong foundation for success, and participants will be ideally positioned to change their worlds."
All graduates of CHM will be able to participate in the program. It will include:
- Individualized vocational and/or academic counseling
- Arranged visits to local universities in Mexico City
- Access to scholarship and internship information
- Assistance with university/vocational school applications and testing processes

Monthly stipends to alumni who are unable to afford transportation, books and supplies for university/vocational school
- Guidance and mentoring as graduates make the transition into the formal work sector, including assistance with resumes and job interview skills
“The mission of Christel House is fulfilled when our kids successfully transition into the work force,” said CH Founder, Christel DeHaan. “Extensive support - both in terms of human involvement and programmatic expenses are necessary to accomplish this. We are enormously grateful to ICE for partnering with CH Mexico in this critically important initiative. Our kids will be mentored; they will be exposed to strong role models and be assisted in developing a strong career path.”
ICE, Inc. will also offer a six week summer internship for three CHM alumni who meet an established GPA on their college coursework. The students must have successfully completed their freshman year of university, be actively involved in the career development program, and be fluent in English to apply.
The career development and internship programs will begin for the 2013-2014 school year at CHM.
