Athlete aims to be an Athletic Director

Alexis S. graduated from Christel House Indianapolis in 2022. While she didn’t know it until after she started college, she had already discovered her dream job working sporting events as a student volunteer for Christel House Athletic Director Nolan Dowling. “I wanted to be an Athletic Director,” she realized.

Alexis embodies a spirit of dedication and adaptability that sets her apart. “During that first semester in college, I decided that being a Criminal Justice Major was not for me anymore. When I looked back at what I wanted to do, I decided I wanted to be Mr. Dowling,” she says with a smile. Transitioning from a different major at IUPUI to pursuing Sports Recreation at Anderson University, Alexis found her passion ignited during her time at Christel House. Reflecting on her journey, she shares, "I really loved what I did here at Christel House and continued it." AD Dowling remembers Alexis volunteering at events, managing the concessions and working the scorer’s table. “Her senior year, she started to develop an even larger interest in how everything works,” he says. “Whenever she had questions, I tried to answer them to the best of my ability to ensure she was learning everything she could.” Alexis remained a part of the school’s athletics program after graduation. “She stepped up and we created a role for her as Event Manager, where she grew even more,” Dowling says. “She started to really enjoy and love the job.” Inspired by Dowling's leadership, Alexis aspires to follow in his footsteps. "I want to study under Mr. Dowling. I love the way he runs the program." Her dedication shines through as she juggles her internship responsibilities at Christel House alongside her commitment as a member of her college softball team, excelling in both academia and athletics. As her mentor, Dowling is proud of Alexis’ drive to succeed. “To see her go into the field is extremely exciting,” he says. “She will be a great AD one day.”
