Community Health Network Foundation supports health of Christel House Academy students

A brighter, healthier future

Caring for the community is what Community Health Network does daily, but that caring doesn’t just happen at Community’s hospitals or physician practices. Community’s caregivers are also watching over the health of schoolchildren, teachers and families through a variety of partnerships with nearly 60 schools across central Indiana.

Community’s mission is to enhance health and wellbeing in the communities its caregivers serve. Reaching out to the youngest members of the community helps provide a foundation not just for their health, but their academic and sporting success.

One of Community’s school-based partnerships is with Christel House Academy South, where Community provides an onsite nurse. Christel House Academy is a public charter school that offers over 650 inner-city youth in grades K-12 numerous opportunities to

realize their full potential. Many of these children come from families that face great challenges such as poverty, hunger, substance abuse and absentee parents.

Carey Dahncke, Chief Academic Officer of Christel House Academy says, “Our school nurse, provided by Community Health Network, is critical to fulfilling our mission. At-risk, inner-city students routinely come to school in need of medical attention. Having daily, onsite nursing available means Christel House students can receive medical care when they need it. From something as simple as dispensing medicine to as urgent as emergency care for a serious injury, our nurse is always ready to respond to our children’s needs. We are enormously thankful to Community for this important contribution.”
