New drop-in childcare service will support adult students in Fall 2021

With generous donations from Glick Philanthropies and the Rowley Family Foundation, students enrolled at Christel House DORS South adult high school will be able to utilize a new onsite drop-in childcare service beginning in Fall 2021. The Glick Play Garden will be located at the Manual campus on the Southside of Indianapolis.

The drop-in service will allow parents attending Christel House DORS South the opportunity to focus on their studies while providing a safe care option for their preschool children. Christel House DORS graduates earn a CORE 40 high school diploma with 90% of DORS graduates also completing career certifications and/or dual college credits. The Glick Play Garden will help ease the burden of a critical shortage of quality, licensed childcare available on the Southside.

The new drop-in childcare service is part of a larger plan to expand the Manual facility into a community serving campus for the Southside of Indianapolis. “We are grateful to Glick Philanthropies for renovating the space and to the Rowley Family Foundation for providing five years of staffing support,” says Dr. Sarah Weimer, Executive Director, Christel House Indianapolis. “Having access to quality drop-in care for the children of our adult learners will mean that they can concentrate on their studies and achieve their academic goals with the peace of mind that comes from knowing your child is safe and secure. This is a huge win/win for Christel House DORS families.”

As part of an Innovation partnership between Christel House and Indianapolis Public Schools, Christel House Indianapolis assumed operations of the Manual High School campus in July 2020. Christel House Academy South and Christel House DORS South will move all classes and operations to the Manual campus in 2021.
