Each year, charitable organisations apply to become official beneficiaries of the Two Oceans Marathon Initiative (TOMI), the social collective project of the world-renowned Two Oceans Marathon race. Christel House South Africa is one of the charities that will receive much-needed funding from runners who purchase charity tickets from our school. Runners are also tasked with setting up fundraising pages on GivenGain to raise additional funds for our #GiveaHandUp campaign, which provides new Grade R’s with basic school essentials for the year ahead.
Danielle Issa, one of our TOMI runners, has raised a whopping R13 000 thus far and has a fundraising target of R25 000. Danielle, who learnt about Christel House from a friend, said that she decided to support our school because she knows how tough it is for parents to provide school essentials for their kids. Growing up with four siblings, her parents went through a rough patch and she still remembers what a toll this took on them. “As a child, I was able to pick up on the respective stresses they faced, even though my parents tried their best to reassure us. It is of importance that a child's environment should be conducive for them to grow and thrive without the stress of how their schooling needs will be met,” says Daniella. Currently she is ranked as the 6th top fundraiser on GivenGain for the 2020 Two Oceans Marathon and aims to set the bar even higher for herself by becoming the top fundraiser.
Caoife Darcy, another Christel House runner, who resides in Dublin, Ireland has successfully raised 225 Euros, thus far. “I was made aware of the good work at Christel House as I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. The ethos of Christel House, it’s students, employees and the school’s holistic approach has always stuck with me,” says Caoife.
