Spreading love at Christel House South Africa

On 14 February, love was felt everywhere, but even more so at Christel House South Africa. Both our Junior and High School held exciting Valentine’s Day programmes for the day, that consisted of singing, reading poems and even hosting a beauty pageant that included students and teachers. Students and staff dressed in red to express their love and appreciation for each other.

Many of our students come from homes where parents work long hours and often they have little time to spend quality time with their children. As such, our devoted teachers lead the way in providing a strong value system for students and make sure that our students feel appreciated and loved throughout the year. Our character programme forms the foundation of our curriculum as we teach our students essential values to help them succeed and live a meaningful life. Each year, our school acknowledges one student by awarding him or her with the Knebel Award, which focuses on strong character development.

The school’s social services department also works tirelessly to ensure that students learn important values and understand what love, respect and kindness should look like and why it is important. “Important values are taught to our learners daily. We work with teachers to ensure that students know what healthy, loving relationships look like with others and that each child has a positive self-image,” said Janine Welby - Solomon, Senior Social Worker and Admissions Co–Ordinator at Christel House South Africa.
