Christel House kids help train next-gen teachers

Students at Christel House Academy South are helping develop the next generation of teachers. Through a partnership with the University of Indianapolis, students studying to be elementary education teachers regularly visit to get hands-on experience working with Christel House students. The student-teachers work with the young children using robots to introduce math and engineering concepts as part of the STEM curriculum. Allayne Arthur, now a first-grade teacher at Academy South, discovered and fell in love with Christel House through the UIndy teacher candidate program when she was a student. “It was like getting your feet wet,” she says. Lashonita Smith, a junior at UIndy (pictured above) enjoys the interaction. “Coming here and working with the kids makes me know why I want to be a teacher.”
