For adults returning to earn a high school diploma, the first day back after years away can be intimidating. Christel House DORS makes that transition easier with orientation sessions for new students. Mitzi Mendez, Resource Specialist, and Martin Bruner, Academic Assessor, welcome new students each month. The DORS team carefully explains class schedules, services available to assist students and families, and expectations including a community service requirement for graduation. For Maria, it is the chance to improve her English skills she most looks forward to. Brook discovered DORS when walking her son to school at Christel House Academy West. “I found out they offered a chance for me to get a diploma – it was a motivation,” she says. “I’m excited to be here.”
