Jumpstart gives children a great start at school

Preparing kids for academic success starts early. The Jumpstart Program at Christel House Academy introduces children to basic skills needed for school. Many impoverished children in Indianapolis do not have good preschool options. “We recognized we have some students woefully underprepared to start kindergarten,” says Carey Dahncke, Christel House Head of Schools. Using kindergarten readiness assessments, Christel House identifies incoming students that can benefit from the Jumpstart Program. The summer session introduces the alphabet, numbers, and in the case of English-as-a-second-language students, starts the children on a path to understanding and speaking English, too. “In just one month, we can see how this boost benefits the children not just academically but socially as well. They are better prepared to start school.” PNC Bank is a supporter of the Jumpstart program at Christel House Academy.
