Teaching students about money, matters

In 2004, Carl Mills, VP and Senior Relationship Manager for Fifth Third Bank had an idea – teach children to be bankers. He launched a ten-week “banking basics” concept class for fifth graders at Christel House Academy South. Years later, the program is still going strong. “We teach students about budgeting, money management and how to set financial goals for their future,” says Mills. After 14 years of teaching this program, Mills loves reconnecting with former students. At the recent Christel House Open golf tournament, Carl reunited with Tahj B. (pictured above) now at IUPUI. Tahj thanked his teacher for the important financial lessons. “It’s a great partnership between Christel House and Fifth Third Bank,” says Mills. “We enjoy it. And the kids learn and enjoy it, too.”
