DORS teacher wins award

For many students, especially those in our adult high school, math can be a challenging subject. Thanks to the creative work of the math teacher at DORS West, our adult high school students are flourishing in math class — and her work is capturing national attention! DORS math teacher Samantha Griffith has been recognized with the Sontag Prize in Urban Education. As part of the award, Samantha will receive professional development at Harvard University. “She is such an awesome teacher,” says Lakisha, a DORS student. “She has such a passion for math.” Samantha admits that as a child, she did not care for math. But a teacher in middle school changed her perspective. Now she’s on a similar mission at DORS. “I just love math,” says Samantha. “I get joy out of changing our student’s minds about the subject!”
