Danijel Yeakey has always had a passion for helping people. As Student Support Lead for Christel House DORS, she sees first-hand the impact that DORS has on adults returning to get their high school diplomas. “We work with a population that has experienced challenges and failures before in the school system. We want to make sure they feel comfortable when they come to our school. We want them to know that they are not alone and that support is there both academically and socially.” That can include assisting students with transportation, shelter, sometimes even recognizing and assisting in domestic violence issues. It can be a challenge but Danijel says working with DORS students is worth it. “How cool is it that I get to work with a staff and a school that actually makes the dreams come true for those folks who felt like it was completely not an option.”
