CH India CEO: Why schools must identify health challenges early

Last modified on August 13, 2026

In a wide-ranging interview with Express Healthcare, a leading business magazine in India, Christel House India CEO Jaison C Mathew discussed the connection between health and learning outcomes. “For children growing up in underserved communities, nutrition, physical health, mental well-being, and access to healthcare are deeply connected,” Mathew shared. He highlighted how early identification and support can make a meaningful difference, including the case of a student struggling to concentrate and frequently falling ill who was diagnosed with anemia by the school’s nursing staff. After receiving nutritional and medical support, the student began attending regularly and participating more in class. As Mathew noted, “Health and education are often discussed as separate sectors, but for the children we work with, they are inseparable parts of the same journey.”
