Expanding Christel House to new countries

Last modified on February 27, 2025

Christel House President and CEO David Harris (Right) is welcomed by His Excellency Dr. Jonathon Bii Chelilin E.G.H., Governor, in Eldoret, Kenya during a visit to one of six countries under consideration as expansion locations for two new Christel House schools.

With more than 20,000 students served across nine schools in five countries, Christel House is now poised for its next chapter. After months of meticulous research, we have identified six potential countries for expansion: Ghana, Kenya, Colombia, Peru, Nepal, and Bangladesh.  From this list, two will be chosen to launch new Christel House schools, furthering our mission to break the cycle of poverty through education. At the core of this expansion is the Christel House Global Pathbuilders Fellowship—an intensive, two-year program designed to identify and equip visionary leaders in our target countries. The response has been overwhelming, with over 2,300+ applicants eager to join this transformative initiative. The momentum is building, and the future of Christel House has never been more exciting!

Applications for the Fellowship closed on January 15, 2025, with 2,331 aspiring leaders expressing interest in being part of this transformative initiative.  Following an initial review, 119 candidates advanced to the next round. The remaining applicants provided their detailed submissions in mid-February, which have now undergone a rigorous evaluation to further refine the selection pool. Candidates advancing to the next stage will undergo a rigorous selection process, including panel interviews, case studies, reference checks, and in-country assessments. From this competitive pool, an expansion team committee will select two exceptional candidates, one for each of the new schools. These Fellows will receive the strategic, financial, and operational support needed to establish and lead Christel House in their respective countries.  As they build and shape the schools, they will eventually transition into the role of Chief Executive Officer, overseeing fundraising, board relationships, external partnerships, and future expansion efforts. The final selection of Fellows and the two expansion countries will be announced in June 2025.

As we embark on this bold expansion, Christel House remains steadfast in its commitment to providing life-changing opportunities for students in some of the world’s most challenging environments. With this next step, we are extending our impact to new communities, empowering the next generation to rise beyond their circumstances and achieve their fullest potential.
