For the first time, Christel House is offering our College & Careers program outside our schools. Christel House Career Coaches are now working with over 1,000 students at four Indianapolis high schools. “The reason I’m here is to be a support system for them,” says Claire Humphrey, Career Coach. “They’re in the driver’s seat, but I’ll be in the passenger seat, helping guide them.” Selicia A., a senior at Irvington Preparatory Academy, is grateful for her coach’s support. “She just guided me to places that I don’t think I would have been able to have gone by myself.”
Luis Serrano, College & Careers Collaboration Coordinator, says response to the new program has been very positive. “Students are requesting appointments with our career coaches.” Jana Goebel, Principal of Irvington Preparatory Academy agrees. “The kids – already this morning before she got here, kids are like ‘Hey, is Ms. Humphrey here, I need to talk to her, I need to make an appointment with her.’ We knew that post-secondary counseling services were an area we needed to grow in,” she admits. “It’s been such a good partnership with Christel House International.”
Like the College & Careers program at Christel House schools, the Collaboration coaching will also provide support beyond high school graduation. “I think that is what makes the program so unique,” says Humphrey. “They’re like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to be on my own.’” She looks forward to continuing the journey with her students. “I’m going to be there for them – and help guide them through it.”
