At Christel House India, education is more than textbooks and exams. The school supports students from classroom to life, providing students with opportunities to practice character and leadership in authentic settings inside and outside the school. A powerful example of this is unfolding on the Bangalore campus — and it’s happening in the music room.
Music at Christel House India is treated with the same importance as math or science. Students are trained in both Hindustani and Western traditions, learn to read and interpret musical notation, and gain hands-on experience with instruments. By graduation, every student is proficient in at least one instrument. But this program isn’t just about teaching music — it’s about building identity, confidence, and voice.
In 2024, teachers noticed students making gender-based assumptions about musical ability, reflecting deep-rooted societal norms. Determined to change this narrative, the music department launched an All-Girls Band. Recently, the All-Girls Band showcased their talent to over 15,000 SAP Global associates, performing both virtually and in person – an incredible opportunity to highlight the achievements of these young musicians.
“When people think of a band, they often picture boys. We wanted to change that. As high school girls, we started our own band to prove that music has no gender. Music isn’t just a word, it’s a gift of happiness and love.”
— Deepika G., Grade 10A, Bass Guitarist
The initiative has grown from a simple idea into a movement of empowerment. Though many girls were initially hesitant to participate, encouragement from teachers, support from peers, and the success of the band have inspired others to step forward.
“I have seen boys leading the way in music, whether playing instruments or mastering sound mixing. But I felt a deep calling to empower the girls, to show them their voice matters just as much. These incredible young girls are proof that when girls put their hearts into something, there is nothing they cannot achieve. They are not just learning music; they are breaking barriers, building confidence, and inspiring every girl at Christel House to dream bigger, reach higher, and believe in their limitless potential.”
— Thomas Joseph, Music Teacher
The program extends beyond performance. Through the Sound Engineering Club, students dive into the technical side of music — learning sound mixing, mastering, and equipment handling. They visit professional studios, interact with industry engineers, and explore how music comes together behind the scenes.
“I had the wonderful opportunity to host a workshop for the Sound Engineering Club students of Christel House at our studio. Their curiosity and eagerness to learn reminded me I was in the company of serious, passionate learners. It’s inspiring to see such young minds so deeply engaged with the craft — they are headed for a bright and impactful future in the world of sound.”
— Mr. Sajayakumar MP, Audio Mix & Master Engineer
Christel House India is committed to helping students show up confidently in every aspect of life. The All-Girls Band at Christel House India is more than music — it’s a celebration of courage, a spark of change, and a powerful example of what a holistic education can achieve.
