“I love my science classes,” declares Chandan Y., Grade 10 student at Christel House India – Atal Nagar. Science labs allow students a chance to explore through experiments. Arati Sharma, Science and Biology teacher, says her classes foster curiosity and creativity. “We place a strong emphasis on active learning strategies.” SAP Labs India, one of the world’s leading producers of business process software, has stepped forward to support the school’s science program. “We are delighted to partner with Christel House India in their commendable mission,” says Sagarika Bose – Head CSR – SAP In India. “Our company firmly believes in the power of education to transform lives, and together, we can provide children with tools and opportunities they need to build a brighter future. By investing in their education, we are investing in the potential of the next generation, and we are committed to making a lasting impact on their lives.”
Sharma says the new funding will improve the lab experience for students. “Given the significance of science as a major subject, our approach emphasizes skill-based learning,” she says. “Students actively participate in a variety of experiments integrated into their curriculum.”
Children are introduced to science classes beginning in fifth grade. From Grade 8 onwards, science classes are diversified into three distinct subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. “Throughout these lessons, students develop essential skills – reading is honed as they engage with scientific texts, drawing skills are refined through visual representations of concepts, and analytical reasoning skills are cultivated as students explore the intricacies of scientific principles.”
Sharma’s passion for science started during her days as a student. Now she dedicates herself to educating the next generation of student/scientists – like Dolly S., Grade 8. “I like the engaging activities my teachers bring to my classes,” says Dolly. “I eagerly wait for my science classes.”
As students approach graduation at Atal Nagar, Sharma anticipates a notable impact on career choices – and she encourages girls to pursue science. “I am confident that Christel House girl students will not only embrace this challenge but excel in it,” she says. “Their confidence, nurtured by our unique educational approach, will likely lead to a higher number of female students pursuing careers in science—a testament to the empowering and inclusive environment we strive to create at Christel House.”
