December 5 marked a milestone for students and families in Colombia — and a proud moment for the entire Christel House community. During the 2025 graduation ceremony at Colegio Barbacoas in Barú, Christel House officially announced a historic new alliance with Fundación Santo Domingo, a family foundation that has advanced social mobility in Colombia for more than 65 years. “This alliance represents the evolution of years of work on the island of Barú,” said José Francisco Aguirre, Executive Director of Fundación Santo Domingo. “Combined with the Christel House model—internationally recognized for its holistic approach that blends academic excellence with character development—this will establish a strong foundation for expanding educational and social opportunities for the community.”

The alliance will begin with Colegio Barbacoas, where Christel House and Fundación Santo Domingo will work closely throughout 2026 to prepare for a full transition to the Christel House model in 2027 that will include rigorous academics, nutritious meals, healthcare, and five years of post-graduation college and career support. Throughout the transition process, students and families will continue to receive education and comprehensive wraparound services free of charge. “At Christel House, we deeply believe in the potential of every student,” said David Harris, CEO of Christel House International. “Through this alliance, we’re empowering the youth of Barú with the tools to break the cycle of poverty for themselves – and for generations to come.”

Students played a central role in the Colombia announcement, creating and presenting original artwork to commemorate the new alliance. “Each artwork reflects how they see and feel about this partnership,” said Ana Paula Buzo, Chief Talent Officer, Christel House International. “They see this alliance as protection, opportunity, new beginnings, love, strength, and light guiding their future. And they expressed it with a level of hope and clarity that truly moved us.”. In one especially meaningful moment, a student and parent presented Christel House with a ceremonial oak tree, symbolizing strength, endurance, and the long-term commitment both organizations are making to the community.

We are deeply grateful to Fundación Santo Domingo, the educators and families of Colegio Barbacoas, and all our donors and partners around the world who make moments like this possible.
