CHRISTEL HOUSE INDIANAPOLIS NAMES EMILY MASENGALE AS NEW CEO

(INDIANAPOLIS) Christel House Indianapolis Board Chair, Fernando Falcon, announced today that Emily Masengale has been named CEO of the local charter school network. In this role, Ms. Masengale will lead the operations of Christel House’s two K-8 schools, Christel House Academy South and Christel House Academy West, Christel House Watanabe Manual High School, and Christel House DORS, a high school for adults 18 and older. Mr. Falcon said, "The Christel House Indianapolis board is thrilled to have Ms. Emily Masengale as its new CEO.  Emily has been committed to the success of the organization for the last 14 years. Her desire to ensure that every student is challenged and given the opportunity to excel at the highest level is her passion. We are fortunate to have someone who understands the value of the Christel House brand and is prepared to lead us into the future."

 

Masengale is a native of Indianapolis, and began her teaching career in St. Louis, Missouri where she was nominated as St. Louis Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year and was in the top five for Missouri Teacher of the Year. She moved back to Indiana where she designed and served as the founding principal at Christel House DORS. She led DORS from 2012 until 2020 when she accepted the position of Assistant Executive Director at Christel House Indianapolis. While at DORS, she was also a coach and instructor for Columbia University’s Summer Principals Academy Internship.

Ms. Masengale has recently served on many boards throughout the city, such as Irsay Family YMCA at CityWay, Second Helpings, RISE Indy, Indy Maven, and Teach for America. She has been honored as an Indiana Business Journal “Forty Under 40,” National Urban League Young Professional of Distinction Award, Junior Achievement’s “Best and Brightest in Education and Nonprofit” Award, and Glamour’s “Hometown Hero: 50 Phenomenal Women a Year Who are Making a Difference.” She’s also a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XXXIX and a Hoosier Women Forward Class 5 Fellow.

Established as a public charter school in 2002, Christel House Indianapolis (CHINDY) today operates four charter schools in Indianapolis—Christel House Academy South, serving students in grades K-8; Christel House Academy West serving grades K-8, Christel House Watanabe High School located at the Christel House at Manual campus, serving students from grades 9-12 and Christel House DORS, an adult high school with locations at South, West, Ivy Tech downtown  and a new campus at the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center opening this August. Christel House Academy South was Indiana’s first charter school to receive the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform’s “School to Watch” designation.
