Christel House Indianapolis has been honored with the top award at the third annual Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala, receiving the prestigious “Excellence in Next Level Educational Experiences and Opportunities” recognition. The award, presented by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), highlights the school’s transformative approach to preparing students for the future through a holistic focus on literacy, STEM, and college and career readiness. As part of the recognition, Christel House Indianapolis received a $250,000 grant, the largest of the evening, out of nearly $5 million awarded to 25 schools across the state.
Emily Masengale, CEO of Christel House Indianapolis, expressed her excitement and pride in receiving the award. “We knew we were getting an award, but we did not realize it was the culminating award! It felt good — they see the work that we are doing,” Masengale said. “It was a huge honor to be recognized for this, across all the schools in Indiana. We are really focused on continuing to improve and each one of our staff members across the network and in the schools are working incredibly hard.” The funds from the award will support Christel House’s ongoing initiatives to enhance educational experiences, particularly in the areas of STEM and literacy.
The Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala, a black-tie event that celebrates the achievements of educators and schools, shines a spotlight on efforts that support student learning and development across the state. Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education, emphasized the importance of recognizing educators who are shaping the future of Indiana. “Their dedication and passion are shaping the future of Indiana, and we are incredibly proud to honor them tonight,” Jenner remarked, underscoring the significant impact schools like Christel House have in their communities.
