A gift of music

The gift of music

Ron Haylock loved music. He also loved Christel House kids. Watch—and listen—to how his gift brought music to the students of Christel House South Africa.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Ron Haylock successfully headed RCI Europe, a company co-founded by Christel DeHaan, who went on to become Founder and CEO of Christel House International

After his untimely death in 2013, his many friends and colleagues launched a special appeal to create a permanent memorial to him at Christel House in South Africa, a country he loved.

Ron had a passion for music. His memorial encourages the children of Christel House to share that passion.

The Ron Haylock Music Room will be filled with instruments for the newly formed Christel House South Africa band and will be a special place to learn and practice music of all kinds.

To the students at the school, this is not simply a room. It shows how much music can be a positive influence in life. It's an inspiration. “Learning music has opened up a new world for me,” says Christel House South Africa senior and trumpet player Taariq. He's proud to be learning music as part of his Christel House education.

In the Music Room, a plaque will recognize donors from around the world who helped make the band and music room a reality. It’s a place where future generations of students, teachers and visitors to the Cape Town school can celebrate Christel House as well as Ron himself —a man who had so many friends and opened so many doors for young people during his lifetime.
