Brightening up our school campus for Mandela Day

Over 100 staff members from some of our school’s donor and partner companies braved the cold on Mandela Day (18 July) to paint classrooms, jungle gyms and other items at our school campus. Mandela Day recognises the late Nelson Mandela's values and dedication to the service of humanity in the struggle for democracy. Individuals and corporates are encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time giving back.

“The staff at Telviva have volunteered at Christel House SA in the past. We’ve planted trees and packed food parcels. It’s an inspiring and positive space, so we just love being here,” says Fresh Botha, a representative from Telviva.

“Our school is a safe haven for students who come from communities where they face many challenges. They spend much of their time at school, so ensuring that they have a beautiful place to call ‘home’ is extremely important. We are therefore grateful to each person who offered their 67 minutes to help beautify our school,” says Adri Marais, the CEO of Christel House SA.

Despite their challenging circumstances, our students are encouraged to give back by participating in several service-learning initiatives throughout the year. To do their part for Mandela Day, students collected non-perishable food items and clothing for NGO’s and community members.

We would like to express our gratitude to the following organisations for helping to paint our school campus on Mandela Day: Dell Technologies, CHEP, Roche, Smollan, The Cape Grace Hotel, Telviva, NoName Hospitality Group and Data Orbis.
