Capturing the essence of Christel House's Founder

In a ceremony honoring the late Christel DeHaan, Christel House South Africa (CHSA) commissioned a special painting by one of the school’s talented alumni. Toy-Yiebah Cupido, proudly unveiled her portrait of Ms. Christel at the school’s annual Founder’s Day celebration.Toy-Yiebah is currently studying at The Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town. She has painted for Christel House previously, but this artwork was different. “I needed to do justice to all she was, all she embodied, and all she had done for so many at Christel House,” says Toy-Yiebah. “She holds a special presence about her, even in her absence. I wanted to capture that in the painting.” Toy-Yeibah shares Ms. Christel’s love of art and passion for introducing children from underserved communities to art. Ms. Vivienne Stewart, CHSA Art Teacher, is proud of her former student. “She has come into her own as a budding young artist and has developed her own style.” The painting will be on display at Christel House South Africa. Toy-Yiebah is grateful for the opportunity Christel House has provided. “What an honor it was to be able to do it,” she says.
