Christel House Jamaica update: Halfway there!

Phase one construction of the newest Christel House has reached the halfway point, with a tree-planting ceremony marking the occasion. Guests included the Hon. Karl Samuda, MP, Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Education, Youth and Information, who toured the site and planted a Breadfruit Tree to celebrate the milestone. Christel House Jamaica is on schedule to open later this year. The Minister praised the new Christel House Jamaica. “I think it is a gesture that is one of a kind and will serve Jamaica in an extraordinary way.” The school is being built in phases, with the first phase to accommodate kindergarten through Grade 2. Each year thereafter an additional 60 kindergarten students will be admitted, and the school will grow organically until it reaches capacity at grade 13. There is plenty of work to be done for the August opening. “This is a huge project,” says Hon. Sally Porteous, CEO and Board Chair of Christel House Jamaica. “One of the best gifts that you can give to a country like Jamaica is education.”
