Christel House Academy’s innovative teacher recruitment program, IndyTeach is expanding. Ten new apprentice teachers have been recruited. “IndyTeach affords people who did not go to school to be a teacher an opportunity to have a pathway into the profession without having to go back to the university,” says Carey Dahncke, Head of Schools, Christel House Schools. The unique program offers professionals the chance to earn a salary while learning to become a teacher. Teacher recruitment can be a challenge for urban schools. But this year over 60 applicants vied for the IndyTeach positions. In its first year, four apprentices successfully completed the program – and all chose to sign with Christel House as full-time teachers. “That says a lot about the program and the culture at Christel House,” says Lisa Andriate, Talent Specialist, Christel House Schools.
