A water crisis in South Africa

The city of Cape Town is running out of water! Currently, water necessary to meet the needs of our children at Christel House South Africa (CHSA) must be trucked in from other parts of the country and stored in large holding tanks. Outside water taps have been shut down; students are limited to getting drinks from a single, monitored source. Large water tanks capture rain water which is utilized for daily cleaning and restroom use. The staff at CHSA has taken extensive measures to educate all students about the importance of saving water through the crisis, and conservation is part of daily classroom lessons. “Students have shown great interest,” says Kristen Matthews from CHSA. “This has an impact on their daily lives.”
