Ballet builds skills for Academy students

If you watch the kids at Christel House Academies West and South practice ballet moves, you see the joy they derive from dancing. Girls and boys in the afterschool Ballet Club are developing life skills, according to Coleen Szulc, Director of Outreach and Student Services for the Indianapolis School of Ballet. She says ballet is a character-building, mental and physical activity. “Most students who participate will not go on to pursue ballet, but the focus and hard work it instills can apply to any subject and journey they wish to pursue.” Christel House has participated in the School of Ballet’s outreach program for three years. Currently eight students from Christel House are taking formal ballet classes at the Indianapolis School of Ballet on full scholarships.
