An emotional call to Mom: I'm graduating!

A little over a year ago, Diana could barely speak English. She had emigrated from Nicaragua to join her mother in the United States. While she had attended and graduated high school in her native country, the language barriers she faced coupled with her lack of a high school diploma in the United States prevented her from finding a job to support herself. Diana discovered Christel House DORS and it has changed her life.

A year after enrolling at DORS, Diana confidently speaks English. She also now has a full-time job. We were with her when she got more great news – she passed her exams and has the credits to graduate at the DORS ceremony this June. Through tears of joy, Diana called her mother with the wonderful news.

Diana had goals when she enrolled at DORS. “I want to be more. I want to be an outstanding person. I want to be more than I am right now,” she shared. “Since the beginning, I wanted to be the example for adult emigrants. For my country. For the whole world.”
